Suggested Sample Searches
Although the range of documents currently available is limited, you can
explore some of the database's capabilities by trying one of the
representative searches suggested here.
The DOCUMENT query screen can be used to
search for documents by title, author, date or publisher, or for documents
about specific films, people, or subjects. From this screen:
- Search for "Potemkin" in the film title field; then try narrowing
your search by adding other search criteria. For example, compose a
search with "Potemkin" in the title field, and "Museum of Modern Art"
in the "document source" field.
- Search for "Pacific Film Archive" in the document source field
for a sampling of program notes, intertitles, and other materials
published by the PFA.
The FILMOGRAPHIC query screen
can be used to search for films by title, subject, genre, director, year,
country, or studio. From this screen:
- Search for a title word, such as "Frankenstein," with the search
type "exact," then do a second search on "Frankenstein" with the search
type "contains."
- Search for a genre such as "horror" or "musicals" or search for
films from a particular country. Limit the type of search to "begins
with" for quicker retrieval.

Search Tips screen.
